Who is Magic-Sparkes, REALLY?
Doug "Magic" Sparkes has a passion for creating wonder and connection. After growing up in Federal Way, Washington he hoped to break into the entertainment industry. He went onto college and earned a degree in Speech, Telecommunications, and Film. Life, however, had other plans and the next he knew he was working a corporate job, (manager
Doug "Magic" Sparkes has a passion for creating wonder and connection. After growing up in Federal Way, Washington he hoped to break into the entertainment industry. He went onto college and earned a degree in Speech, Telecommunications, and Film. Life, however, had other plans and the next he knew he was working a corporate job, (manager of energy related projects for a major NW company) and raising a family.
His desire to perform, however, never faded. In 1998, Doug found mentors in the magic community and slowly began his journey as a professional magician. For many years, he tried to balance corporate life with his passion, but in 2021, too much had changed. After the heartbreaking loss of his remaining siblings—one in 2019, another in 2020, and his last sister in early 2021—he faced his own health battles, including a cancer diagnosis and the need for a pacemaker in 2023. These challenges became a turning point, making it clear that it was time to fully embrace his true calling. Doug quit his job, (called it early retirement) and started pursuing his dreams.
Today, Doug Magic-Sparkes is living his dream, bringing laughter, amazement, and healing through his lighthearted comedy magic performances. In his own words, "My life is rich and fulfilling. I perform magic because it helps me connect with others. Magic is healing. Magic is real medicine.”
